War on Drugs vs. War on Terrorism
As the United States continues to wage these two "wars" simultaneously, a serious problem seems to be arising. So long as the black market for opium exists, and consumers in America are willing and able to buy the drug, producers will continue to produce the crop. In Afghanistan, this dilemna is coming to fruition. While we are encouraging the Afghan people to create a functioning economy, our war on drugs is keeping the price of poppy so high that it is the most lucrative option for many Afghan tribes and war lords.
