A history lesson for liberals

In 1941, America was attacked by Japanese suicide bombers. Hitler quickly declared war against the United States. Our first response was to invade North Africa. Was that "the wrong war at the wrong time"? Did FDR "take his eye off the ball"? Not hardly. He recognized that to successfully defeat the nazis in Germany and the fascists in Japan and Italy, he had to first stop the expansion of the evil forces. By attacking and defeating the weaker elements first, namely those in Africa and then Italy, we were able to build upon successes and take on a weakened Hitler first in France and then ultimately in Germany.

Much the same, President Bush has chosen to attack the weakest member of the "Axis of Evil". Both Iran and North Korea have WMD programs which are much more established, and they both have more substantial armies. It would be unwise to challenge North Korea head-on right now. We must first defeat other weaker nations overwhelmingly so that the North Koreans become more isolated and doubtful of their own future. When the time comes, North Korea will answer for its mistakes, but the time is not yet upon us. The battle with Iran is on the horizon, and Syria may not be far behind. And I don't think France will help us deal with them, either.
