That pesky "immigration" issue
Finally, after 2 Presidential and 1 Vice-Presidential debates, we finally got a question about illegal insurgents. I mean undocumented workers. I mean disenfranchised Mexicans. I mean hard working citizens of the world just trying to come to America to make a better life for their families. I am absolutely sick and tired of the federal government IGNORING the will of the American people and our demands to secure the Mexican border. The illegals are coming here in droves, and they are taking advantage of the American taxpayer left and right. They are bankrupting our hospitals, they are clogging up our classrooms, they are a drain on social programs aimed at low income people. They refuse to learn English, and they are now attempting to get access to social security benefits. Just recently, we learned that 25 Chechens may have crossed into the US in July, yea those Chechen "rebels" who took over a school and shot children in the back. What did the 2 candidates say about immigration?
BUSH: ...And so in order to take pressure off the borders, in order to make the borders more secure, I believe there ought to be a temporary worker card that allows a willing worker and a willing employer to mate up, so long as there's not an American willing to do that job, to join up in order to be able to fulfill the employers' needs.
That has the benefit of making sure our employers aren't breaking the law as they try to fill their workforce needs. It makes sure that the people coming across the border are humanely treated, that they're not kept in the shadows of our society, that they're able to go back and forth to see their families. See, the card, it'll have a period of time attached to it.
It also means it takes pressure off the border. If somebody is coming here to work with a card, it means they're not going to have to sneak across the border. It means our border patrol will be more likely to be able to focus on doing their job.
Now, it's very important for our citizens to also know that I don't believe we ought to have amnesty. I don't think we ought to reward illegal behavior.KERRY: ...we need a guest-worker program, but if it's all we have, it's not going to solve the problem.
The second thing we need is to crack down on illegal hiring. It's against the law in the United States to hire people illegally, and we ought to be enforcing that law properly.
And thirdly, we need an earned-legalization program for people who have been here for a long time, stayed out of trouble, got a job, paid their taxes, and their kids are American. We got to start moving them toward full citizenship, out of the shadows.
In other words, neither one of these men are willing to enforce the laws we currently have in place regarding immigration and deportation. Asa Hutchinson recently said that Americans "don't have the will" for the work that needs done in regards to these degenerate illegals who are infiltrating our society. We don't? Well, Mr. Secretary, I beg to differ. The folks at FAIR are working to correct this problem, and it is a huge problem. Ultimately, I do not understand how we can fight a war on terror when those who seek to destroy America can walk into the country at will, and then once they're here, we simply refuse to deport them. I say that we could either build a wall between the US and Mexico, hire and deputize citizens to patrol the area, or we could permanently setup the National Guard forces along the border to control the epidemic of illegals flooding in here.
Why won't Bush nor Kerry do anything about the problem? I believe that Bush wants to appease his corporate buddies who love the cheap labor and they also don't mind being able to skirt paying the taxes they owe on employees. Solution: flat tax. I believe that Kerry sees the immigrants as likely Democrat voters who would love the chance to vote for a Democrat in exchange for a nice dose of welfare benefits. Solution: insist that ONLY citizens may cast ballots.
I believe that when an illegal immigrant is caught, he or she should be required to supply fingerprints and a DNA sample to the DHS. Then, he or she will be immediately be sent back to the country of origin, and the associated cost will be deducted from the unConstitutional foreign aid we're probably already giving that country. Should that person be caught here again illegally, 5 year mandatory prison sentence in the federal system. Oh yea, and let's stop using tax dollars to set up water fountains in the deserts of the border states...
